A Neighborly Practice for Maynard's Mill Town
Maynard began as Assabet Village, a corner of Stow and Sudbury that grew up around a woolen mill on the Assabet River. The mill wove wool fabric from 1846 to 1950, including cloth for Civil War uniforms. The town incorporated in 1871, and later the same brick complex housed Digital Equipment Corporation from 1957 to 1998, earning the nickname "Mini Computer Capital of the World."
The 1892 clock in the old mill tower, a gift of Lorenzo Maynard, is still wound by hand every week. That habit of steady upkeep is a good fit for how we think about teeth. Small, regular care keeps a smile running far longer than waiting for a breakdown.
Today about 10,700 people live in this compact Middlesex County town of 5.4 square miles. Roughly three in four homes are owner-occupied, and most housing is single-family, including the Presidential district, built in 1902 and 1903 as mill-worker homes.
Plenty of people who live here never stray far from the river. The paved Assabet River Rail Trail links downtown to the South Acton commuter rail station and to the Assabet River National Wildlife Refuge, which spreads across parts of Maynard, Stow, Hudson and Sudbury. Our office is a quick drive from all of it, with Acton and Concord close by as well.
Younger households are part of the picture too. Green Meadow School, Fowler School and Maynard High School share adjoining campuses off Route 117, and their students need the same cleanings, sealants and sports mouthguards as kids anywhere. Our 7:00 AM weekday openings let a parent fit a child's checkup in before the first bell, then head back up Route 27.
Dental Priorities for Maynard's Established Residents
The town's median age sits around 45, and nearly one in five residents is 65 or older. That is the group most likely to face worn-out fillings, cracked molars, gum recession or a missing tooth. Having those needs handled close to home, by one team that knows your history, makes a real difference.
Gum health is often the starting point. Our periodontist provides scaling and root planing, antibiotic therapy, gum grafting and bone grafting right in the office. Treating gum disease early helps protect the natural teeth you still have and prepares the mouth for any restorations to come.
When a tooth is lost, the options run from a single implant to implant bridges, implant dentures and All-On-4. Our dentists use Cone Beam 3D imaging, a scan that takes under 10 seconds, to plan treatment with a full view of the jaw. Crowns for damaged teeth can often be designed and made in a single visit with CEREC.
Comfort matters too, especially for longer appointments. Nitrous oxide is available for adults and children, and oral conscious sedation, a prescribed pill, is an option for moderate or severe anxiety or extended treatment.
Distance plays a part as well. Implant care and gum treatment often take several visits over a few months, and a straight 11-minute drive down Route 27 is easier to repeat than a trip into Boston traffic. Adult children who help a parent with appointments also appreciate a route with few turns and early or Saturday times that work around their own jobs.
Restoring Smiles with a Dentist in Maynard, MA in Mind
Dental Implants
Single implants, implant bridges, implant dentures and All-On-4 replace missing teeth with stable, lasting options. Maynard patients can plan the whole process in one office, from imaging to the final restoration.
Restorative Dentistry
Composite fillings, root canal therapy, inlays, onlays and extractions repair or remove problem teeth. CEREC crowns let many patients leave with a finished crown rather than a temporary.
Periodontics
Bleeding gums, deep pockets and receding gumlines all fall under periodontal care. Our in-house periodontist means fewer referrals and less driving for patients from up Route 27.
Sedation Dentistry
Laughing gas and oral conscious sedation help anxious patients get through longer restorative visits. Our team helps you pick the level of sedation that fits the procedure.
Family Dentistry
Regular cleanings, exams and oral cancer screening are the base of every plan. Nightguards and TMD care help residents who clench or grind at night.
Before any of this begins, our dentists use digital x-rays and an intraoral camera so you can see what they see on the screen. More detail on the imaging, camera and CEREC system is on our Advanced Technology page.

What Our Patients Say
Frequently Asked Questions
How far is Sudbury Dental Excellence from Maynard, and how do I get there?
The office is 6.1 miles from Maynard Town Hall, about 11 minutes by car. Follow Walnut Street to Route 27 south, continue on Maynard Road into Sudbury, then take Hudson Rd briefly and Concord Rd south through Sudbury Center. Residents choosing a dentist in Maynard, MA will find us at 15 Concord Rd, just north of Route 20.
Is an implant or a bridge better for one missing tooth?
Either can work, and the better choice depends on the health of the neighboring teeth and the bone underneath. An implant replaces the tooth on its own, while a bridge relies on the teeth beside the gap. Our dentists compare both after an exam and 3D imaging, then explain the cost and timeline of each.
What is scaling and root planing?
Scaling and root planing is a deep cleaning that removes hardened buildup from below the gumline and smooths the root surfaces. It is a common first step in treating gum disease. At our office it is part of periodontal care led by Dr. Xu, and antibiotic therapy may be added when pockets around the teeth are deep.
Does the Savings Plan include a discount on implants?
Yes, Savings Plan members receive 15% off implant-related services. The plan costs $399 a year, or $349 for each additional family member, and also includes two cleanings, exams and x-rays a year, 20% off other dental procedures and unlimited emergency exams and x-rays. It is designed for patients without dental insurance.
Can I be sedated for a long dental procedure?
Yes, oral conscious sedation is available for longer treatment or for moderate to severe anxiety. It is a prescribed pill, and our dentists review your health history before recommending it. Nitrous oxide is a lighter option for patients who just want to take the edge off during a routine visit.
